What If Nothing in Your Life Has Been Wasted?
Good afternoon, everyone. So good to see you all here, and I can attest to what Trisha said: the Spirit is definitely in this place. And I love the work that the Spirit is already doing in this place, because I can already see the tie-in with — I love that meditation. Of, you know, removing that which we are — that's no longer serving us. You know, and getting a different perspective, you know, and so that will help us to face the challenges that will come.
Right? And so, what I want to share today with you, hopefully will help give us a different perspective, so that, you know, when these challenges will come — and believe me, they will come — you know, we can face this with a new consciousness, with a new level of consciousness. So, what I want to share to you, and I won't be before you long.
Let's see. What I want to share with you today is entitled, "What If Nothing in Your Life Has Been Wasted?"
What if nothing in your life has been wasted?
Have you ever looked back on your life and just said, "Man, God, that was such a waste of time. Why did I do that? Why did I let them talk me into doing this? Why did that person come into my life? I made this wrong turn, I thought I was doing the right thing, I made this decision for this job, and I thought it was gonna be great, but it just didn't turn out like I thought it would. Boy, this relationship sure went sour fast." Or then maybe it was a whole season of your life. It's like, "What did I do?"
But what if, from your soul's perspective, there is a different perspective? Failures and wrong turns and griefs in our life — they can all be, and they all are, a part of our soul's unfolding. Something meaningful can still happen. Can still be created out of all of that stuff that happened — those things that we think were mistakes, wrong failings. "Oh, God, why wasn't I smart enough? I should have known better." But those things that hurt us, or make us feel less than — so we think, in our mind — they can still be part of the things that help awaken us, that can help broaden our consciousness.
The Consciousness We Bring
Metaphysically and spiritually, we're not asked to pretend that difficulties and things do not happen. I know a lot of people on the spiritual path, and they think everything is gonna be holy and bliss from here on out, that it's gonna be sun shining all the time. But that's not the case. And Spirit does not ask us to have that perspective.
We are asked to be aware of the consciousness that we bring to what is happening to us. You can't always control what happens to us, but what we can control is the consciousness that we bring to it. As far as expansion of consciousness — we are in that time, right now. And I believe that's why all of our souls chose to be here: to experience this growth and this elevation in our soul, in our energy, at this time. But that consciousness that we bring to every situation, no matter what you do or are doing in life — the consciousness you bring is number one. Actually, what you do in life is secondary to the consciousness that you bring to what you're doing.
We can participate in the things that — the best way for us to approach the different things that happen in our life, the situations that we find in our life, in our families, in different situations on the job — we can participate in what that circumstance does or becomes in us.
And I believe this is the different perspective, going back to our meditation that we had today. We had the aid of our light beings remove that from us — that part of us that is no longer serving us. Because at the level of consciousness that we were at the time when things happened to us, some things we carry, especially if you're empathic. I find this happens a lot with those who are very empathic. And if you're here in the chapel today, and those listening to this message on Zoom — it's a high likelihood that you are empathic. And so we have a tendency to hold on to a lot of things that happen. We're sensitive to what's going on around us, and even the deep hurts, sometimes they can leave that within us. But we're human — that happens, that happens. But we do have that aid, we do have assistance, if we only knew who walks with us.
The Divine Host That Walks With Us
Every day, no matter where we are, no matter where we go, we have a divine host ready to assist us. And you may call it God, you may call it Source, Divine Being — whatever sacred name appeals to your heart is available to you. You may simply call it the grace of God, depending on your background.
But we have a divine host that's with us every moment. And it doesn't have to be a big religious moment, like a big burning bush, or something fantastic coming along. It's even in the small things. And it's the small things, I think, that we can trip up on sometimes, because they are so small. But those small things can accumulate, one upon another — okay, another layer, and another layer, and another layer. That's why the meditation that we did this morning was so powerful. But all of that, when we're talking about our soul's growth and our soul's expansion, our consciousness growing, and meeting the challenges that come now to us — it's important that now we can face it with a new level of consciousness, and that's what our meditation this morning was all about.
The Power of "I Am"
And this is where the "I Am" statements are so powerful. I am. Every time you say "I am," you're making a declaration about yourself.
So, when situations come, circumstances come, or you find yourself, whether at work, at home, no matter what the situation is, when they happen — our old mindset, our ego, our worldly identity, would say, "Oh, I'm too old. I'm not ready for this now. I could have done better. I'm so stupid! Why did I do that? Why did I do that?"
Reg and I, we talk about lessons, life lessons, all the time. We wish there would be a less painful way, sometimes, to learn these lessons. It's like, "God, I really would like to be able to learn this lesson without going through the hurt, or going through the pain." And — I'm going to say this, and I'm going to look over here when I say it, I'm not going to look on this side, because Reg is sitting over there — but when he fell down the stairs and fractured his ankle, this was a couple of weeks ago. And so for the first few days, maybe a week or so, he's like, "God, this was so stupid! Why did I do this? Why did I let this happen?" He was going down the stairs, not holding onto the rail, just going, going, going, and then just missed a step, and he was like, "So stupid. Oh, so stupid, so stupid." Really, I mean, it was like, "Get out of it, man! Come forgive us." But that's how we are when we make mistakes — sometimes we are harder on ourselves.
But those "I Am" statements are declarations, really, of who we are. And we should remember that part of us — that "I Am" — is the divine "I Am," is that spark of God. The scripture describes it as God breathed into man. But it is that divine spark of us that is untouched by age, that is untouched by our failures. It is not defined by our conditions. It remains eternal. It demands… it… remains… Loving.
And when we think about love — first, from a human perspective, we think of it as emotional, as wonder. Oh, I love, I love, and love — which is good. But spiritually, metaphysically, love is a divine force. That's why scriptures say God is love, love is God. We're not talking about a person out there, an old man sitting up on high, looking down. We're talking about the divine creative force of the universe. It doesn't look at us to judge. It doesn't look at us to say, "You're not this, and you are not that." It's the thing that everything is made of.
When you think about the ocean, and you think about the wave — the wave is not the ocean, but it is part of the ocean. And we are that expression of that divine source. Each one of us, each one of you, are the expression — a unique expression — of the divine.
Think about that. We are the unique expression of the divine. When Jesus said, in Luke 17:20–21, "For the kingdom of God is within you," he was pointing to the divine reality that is within us. It's not talking about something outside of us — he was pointing to that truth. It was a pointer to that divine source that is within us.
And it doesn't mean — I know sometimes when we say something like that, there are people of other faiths who may say, "Oh, you're saying you're God" — no, that's not what we're saying. This is not about our ego, our human personality. It just means that there is something of God, there is something of the divine source that is expressing through us — something deeper than any personality, any fear, our occupations, our accomplishments, our failures, our circumstances. It is something in us that all of those things cannot destroy.
It's that thing inside of us that age cannot diminish, that failure cannot define. There is a place within us that not even grief can permanently extinguish.
You Are More Than What Has Happened to You
So remember, and this is our new perspective to go forward, this is our challenge: to remember that "I am still here. I am growing. I am becoming. I am an expression of the divine. I am more." You are more. Then what has happened to you? You are more than what has happened to you.
So, the fact that I was given this message and to speak on this — because for a long time I didn't know what I was going to talk about — but it was impressed upon me, just as a reminder, because I know a lot of you have been walking this path for a while, and you know this, but we are human. And this is just a reminder that nothing that happens to us is ever wasted.
So instead of failures, instead of thinking of ourselves as being less than — take the perspective of your soul, and see experience, and see growth. Instead of seeing that person that you really could have reached through the phone, and you wanted to grab him by the neck if you could, and just wring the stuff out of him — see it, see that person maybe as the person who was teaching us how to love. Maybe it was a person who was showing us, "Hey, you need some boundaries. You need to know how to say no." And maybe that closed door caused us to go down a path that we otherwise would not have gone down — that we would have ignored, or said, "Maybe later."
So, and what if our tears that we cry were really watering something in us, something in our soul that was still yet to grow?
Your Story Is Still Being Written
So, Spirit, God, our divine intelligence — whatever name, as I said before, speaks to your heart — that Spirit is reminding us that your story is still being written. So don't throw away the chapters that you don't like. Don't rip out the pages. "Oh, that was such a waste of time, I wish that didn't happen." Because the truth of it is that they all brought you here — all those experiences brought you here, to this moment, where you are now.
The you that you were 30 years ago, 20 years ago — and you thought, "Oh boy, I was really stupid then," or "Maybe I didn't know enough then" — but that 20-year-old, or that 30-year-old, helped bring you to this moment.
And more importantly, the you that survived — what you never thought you could survive — brought you here. The you that survived. And I know all of you have had that in your life. You survive something that you never, ever thought you could have survived. But you did. But you did. You're here. You're still loving, and you're still learning, you're still becoming. You're still expanding in consciousness. And you're still carrying that divine spark that's in you.
So, release that thought, along with all of those that you've wasted your time, along with everything else that you released from in the meditation this morning — release that thought. And replace it with, "I'm still becoming. I am wiser because I lived. I am more compassionate because I've hurt. And I am stronger because someone tried to knock me down, or they did knock me down, and I have risen. And I am stronger because of that. And I am more conscious because I dared to question. I am more."
God and Source can take your question. I know a lot of religious beliefs will tell you, "Don't question God. You can't question this. It's because this is the way it is." And a lot of that — and this is another topic for another day — of religion, and how all this stuff came about, the Council of Nicaea, where a lot of things that people hold as sacrosanct were really developed because of a power agenda. But that's another thing.
But nothing has been wasted. Not your joy, not the sorrow, not the detours — because somehow, mysteriously and beautifully, all of those moments still brought you here, to this moment. And so, maybe the better question is: what is my soul becoming, because I lived through all of this? And so, whatever your answer may be to that question, you can trust that Spirit is not finished with you yet — that you are still unfolding.
And so it is. Thank you.
