Homecoming Sunday Services, October 25th, 2026

Presiding: Rev. Beth Yates Speaking: Chapel Ministers

Welcome and Introduction

For our homecoming celebration today, our ministers will be presenting. and there is a specific order.

And I'm just gonna say that we're gonna start with Reverend Beth Yates. We have Reverend Stanley Maszczak, Reverend Trish, Reverend Sharon Flynn; our Reverend Bettye Mason is not able to be with us today. And to bring us all back together will be Reverend Bill Whitley. So let's just get this party started. Are you ready?

Ready.

Rev. Beth Yates: The Road That Brought Us Here

I get to talk first. Because I am just so excited about this chapel. I'm excited, and I've talked about that before why I'm excited. But why am I excited? Because of the love, the energy, the peace, the joy, the camaraderie, the community. Those are those are the things that really drew me in. Let's take a step back for each one of you.

What brought you to the chapel? How did you hear about chapel of life, as it was called then? How did you come to know it? Or did you come to know it when it was Metaphysical Chapel of Life? You got up one morning.

You probably had your cup of coffee, hot chocolate, tea, whatever it was, a little something to eat, and you said, I am going to chapel today. I'm gonna do something different.

Somebody invited me, I looked it up on the internet, and there it was, and it resonates. my gosh, I'm doing something different. And if you were like me, when you walk through the door, there was a hug.

There was the healing list for you to place the name of somebody, at least for me, somebody that I cared about, that I wanted prayers for. Came into a community that sang songs, that uplifted people, a healing meditation. And of course, at the end of all of that were the wonderful message bearers.

Communication from spirit loved ones, higher source, whatever it is. Do you remember that first day? Yeah. Remember it was like yesterday.

Was reminded of a poem by Robert Frost.

And we all start our journeys and we never know where the journeys will take us. But we took that first step. A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. Moving in a direction. We didn't step back, we stepped forward.

But Mr. Robert Frost shared with us, "The Road Not Taken."

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Thank you, Robert Frost.

Have you ever heard of six degrees of separation? Yes.

My eleventh grade English teacher, she was a drama instructor. Her name was Betty Hoover. We were at Granby High School in Norfolk. She was a devoted student of Robert Frost. And so I feel joined in that energy.

How many of you took the road less traveled?

How many took the road not taken?

You took the road and here you are.

And thank you, each and every one. You've made a difference here.

Thank you.

Rev. Stanley Maszczak: Beyond Conditioning, to the Heart of God

I'm gonna start off sharing a little story that you you may or may not have heard before. I couldn't figure out who wrote it, but the story goes like this.

One day a man was — and I've edited some of the details — one day a man was making a pot roast for dinner. And before he put it in the pan, he cut off both ends of the pot roast.

And his husband was watching this happen and he said, “Babe, why are you cutting off the ends of the pot roast? Some of us like the ends of the pot roast…” And he says, “What do you mean? This is how my mom always did it.”

And they were like, What? So they're both curious now.

So they pick up the phone and they call his mom and they say, “Mom, why did you always cut the ends off the pot roast?” And she said, “I don't know, that's how my mom did it.”

And so they're like, All right, well, let's give grandma a call.

And they call grandma and ask her, and when they ask her the question, there's a pause and then there's this moment where they kind of could tell Grandma was like holding back her laughter. And she said, “I cut off the ends of the pot roast because back then my pan was too small for the pot roast…”

So if the grandkids choose to make some changes, we might call that, “embracing culinary evolution,” right? So our theme for the chapel's homecoming this year is embracing spiritual evolution. All right. Right?

Sometimes the things that we're learning and are presented with have less to do with some of the mundane things in life, like food preparation or household chores or other things we're taught, and more to do about how we see ourselves, how we see the world around us, how we embrace our spiritual evolution, our our cultural evolution, our social evolution, and how we're shaping the very world we live in with every action we take.

Because we know that the actions we take are based on the ideas we hold, conscious and unconscious, passed down sometimes through multiple generations, and sometimes we don't even know why.

But I'm gonna tell you, that's not a new thing either.

Even two thousand years ago this was happening.

Even our brother Yeshua, Jesus of Nazareth, the great metaphysician, was also not exempt from this reality.

In the Christian scriptures, in the book of Matthew, chapter 15, the story finds Jesus and his disciples walking along their path as they often did from town to town. But there's this woman screaming behind them for help. She recognizes Jesus as this famous healer that she's heard of, and she's a mother. She has a daughter at home, and her daughter is in pain and agony every single day. And so it also happens that this woman is what the Bible calls a Canaanite, a descendant of the enemies of Israel, people who were them.

When we talk about us and them, they were the epitome of them. So she was an outsider. She was not someone who would ever naturally in that time be caught in conversation with Jesus or his inner circle. But she still has this daughter in pain at home, and she is following them, screaming after them, so much so that the disciples turn to Jesus and they're like, This lady is making a scene. Can you just tell her to go away? But Jesus says...

What do you think Jesus said?

Did he say, Sure, I'll I'll at least go talk to her, I'll heal her?

No. The story says that Jesus saw this woman in pain and he turned to her and he said,

"I'm not here for you."

"I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

The story goes on to say that even after Jesus kind of rebuffed her, she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me."

And his response wasn't a softening, it was a doubling down.

He said, "It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs."

And she said, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the master's table."

And in response to that, Jesus answered her and said, "Woman, great is your faith. Let it be done for you as you wish."

And her daughter was healed from that moment, according to this passage.

This woman is in perhaps the most desperate hour of her life. She's tried everything to help her daughter. She's been to all the nurses, all the doctors. She's seen the Reiki healers, the crystals, the herbs. She's gone to healing touch, everything. And she sees this famous healer walking by who knows that she is part of that group.

Of people. And she says, What have I got to lose? And even this, this revered metaphysical teacher still calls her a dog, which was the tradition of people with that prejudice in that time.

And this story tells me three things:

  1. Jesus could have healed that little girl at any time in that conversation with a simple word. And yet, his first instinct was a product of his racist socialization. His first instinct was to withhold his good work from those people.

In our spiritual evolution that we are embracing, may we learn to recognize when our first instinct is social conditioning instead of Spirit.

Second thing I gather from that:

  1. Jesus, along with being a product of his own socialization, maintained an open connection with the Divine that superseded his ego and allowed him to be taught by the Divine through the people around him, to become more expansively loving and inclusive.

In our spiritual evolution may we remain always connected to the Divine and open to be taught by the people around us that we may have been otherwise conditioned to ignore.

Third thing I get:

  1. The rest of the Christian scriptures show us that it was after this moment that the trajectory of Jesus' entire ministry changed. From that moment forward, he no longer believed that his work was only for his people, but that his work of reconciliation between human and divine was the work of all people for all people. That very person—one of those people from that other place, and someone of that gender—was the one Yeshua of Nazareth allowed himself to see and to be present with and to listen to and to shape the trajectory of his metaphysical vision and purpose of unifying above and below, within and without, and the among.

In our embrace of spiritual evolution, may we allow ourselves to be taught by the heart of God, made manifest in the lives of all the people around us, from all nations, backgrounds, genders, orientations, religion, ethnicities, body shapes, abilities, languages, and beyond. May the energy that we channel and embody positively impact all of us, self and others, for the greatest good of all and harm to none.

Thank you.

Rev. Trish: Being Called

The theme of my short little talk is called “being called.” “Being called.” And I just wanted to give you a little background. As we were debating the theme for this year's homecoming.

As we were talking among the ministers and the board members, you know, what should it be? Everyone agreed on a couple things. One thing was that our all of our intuitions told us that this coming year was going to be one of big changes and big new directions. And we also all agreed that all the changes that would happen would be done for the good, the greater good of ourselves and others. they would bring us into a better alignment and evolution of spirit.

in each of us into the greater good. But knowing that you know, change is hard, we knew that potentially this was going to be a tough year. So originally we thought about the theme of spiritual evolution. And then we started talking about you know, the the really the the way we make it harder on ourselves by resisting an irresistible force. Because when it's a true evolution from spirit, you really are not going to be able to say no. Somehow it's your greater good calling. It's your higher consciousness. Trying to take your shoulders and say you're very close, but you need to be a little bit this way. Because it's going to get you to the place that in your heart of hearts you know you need to be. But that can be very uncomfortable.

And so if you can embrace that, if you can go with the flow instead of trying to swim against the flow, that's when it happens in a much more easy note. So we —that's when the the theme became "embracing spiritual evolution," and that's what it is.

So for me, I wanted to talk about what I think of as a calling or callings that people experience. And a lot of times when we think about a calling, we think about something big, monumental, something that happens in a single incident that's so life-changing. You hear about priests saying, you know, I heard a voice.

Of God telling me you will be a priest. Or people say I had a dream one night and it was my grandmother telling me I was going to be a teacher just like she was. You know, something really big and monumental. But to me, the way I've always looked at it, especially for intuitive people such as everyone in this chapel, that calling doesn't have to be that giant monumental single event. It really steers you much more gently if you are open to it. It happens on a smaller scale and it happens on an evolutionary scale. It can be as a very simple set of gentle nudges that increase in intensity if you don't follow them.

So it can be something like an inkling that you get just to think about a website that you might want to check out, maybe something you're searching for, and you hear there's, for example, a metaphysical chapel somewhere, and you you visit their website and then you decide to visit it. That might be that nudging that gets you started on your calling. It might be talking to a friend of a friend and just asking them.

Is your company ever hire people with experience like mine and giving yourself, as you're prompted to do it, asking people about something so you can make a bigger change in your life that happens in little steps? For people who really pay attention to their intuition, the universe doesn't have to have a megaphone to steer you in the other direction. It doesn't have to treat you as like the croquet mallet that in one whack.

Sends that ball all the way across the field. It can be more like much smaller steps like the gentle padded bumpers and the bowling alley. And so the bowling ball just gets nudged back and forth following that path. Those are the types of things that we want to put up. If you get to if you think back on your own life and you think of something that you really enjoy about your life, something you really like, maybe it's a relationship, maybe it's the place you live or your job.

And you look back, you might notice that, you know, you didn't get there, you know, from twenty or ten years ago in one giant jump. People say, well, it was all this series of crazy things. You know, I talked to this person, I moved to this thing, and then that led me to this and that. It's really a winding road that we as intuitive people follow and eventually get us to that bright shining star where we're supposed to be. So if you follow these nudges and you let life and spirit speak to you gently, then spiritual evolution doesn't have to be difficult. you just have to check in and ask your heart, is this, is this little change, is this little inconvenience, is this inability to take this trip and have to replant it for something else?

Does it feel like it's gonna be okay? If it does, just go with it. Let these little synergies, these little happy coincidences manifest in your life as small miracles that really work us along the way of our path.

Getting us to the place we ultimately need to. So this is my message for you today. As this year is unfolding, with the expectation that all of us really feel like it's going to be a year of big changes, be very flexible. Open yourself. Be willing to feel for those little changes and just say, okay, I'm going to let down that feeling of anxiety or fear or frustration. And I'm just going to take this slight change in my path and see where it leads you.

And at the end of that, you're probably going to end up exactly where you need to be in a very easy journey. It's going to be a true spiritual evolution. You're going to be flowing with the path instead of swimming against the stream and answering your calling. That's my message today.

Thank you.

Rev. Sharon Flynn: Embracing Spiritual Evolution

The next speaker, Reverend Sharon Flynn.

Well, good morning, everyone. Slow I any time I talk, I've just got to start with prayer. So it's just let us pray. Father, Mother God, Heavenly Creator, I ask for the insights, the

messages that need to come through with your love and your peace and your oneness. Christ like Christ's name. Amen. Well me and Trish must have been on the same wavelength. we're gonna have some crisscross here, and poor Bill, he'll have his own.

What it means to "embrace"

So I took the "embracing spiritual evolution" and I broke it down. So the first

subject that I'd like to talk is about embracing. And so I looked it up. I like vocabulary, but I also put my spin on it. So embracing means that you are allowing the change. And you are open to the change. You are allowing and accepting the change. We don't do that well.

We do not do change well. And one step at a time was the one song that I kept feeling that I needed to pull into this. It's always one step at a time. But embracing, inviting or allowing the change within your body, your mind, and your spirit.

A shift we can feel

We as a species are going to go through a change, every one of us, and we already started. We have gone through a level of a shift, and we're we we know it now. We don't have to listen to anybody on YouTube. We know it in our body that we're going through this shift. We don't know when it's going to be. We have no idea, but we know we're getting closer.

We can feel the shift in us. We can see it. I don't know about y'all, but when you have your third eye open, there are things going everywhere around you. And yeah, I go, hello. I go, how you doing? My lights are blinking more and more now, and things are just starting to and with my work it's a whole nother level, I can already tell.

that things have already shifted. So one of the things about embracing, when you embrace somebody, you're embracing heart to heart. And if we allow those our heart to open and integrate it with our intuition, then we'll have this discernment that will lead us to truth and integrity. God's love.

Opening our Spiritual Centers

So that's what I feel like this is the embracing aspect. I'm going to E, and then I'm going to the spiritual aspect of our embracing spiritual evolution. And of course, this embraces every one of us here. It refers to the soul and the spirit connection. We are opening our spiritual centers more and more.

When I do my healing work, everybody's on a different level. But people are moving upward to have a very defined, if you know the auric field, the auric field if you see it in the traditional you know, hands-on healing, you have seven layers in the auric field that is very defined. Okay. Everybody has that, okay.

Most of my clients now that I've been working with are now at a nine. That's very defined. They are picking up more and more vibrations, finer vibrations. so that's really exciting for me. And there's a lot of people that are on the 11th path. So I always get excited about those people.

So as we evolve, our spiritual centers, like I said, are now opening. It's gonna help us bring more intuition in. We're gonna have higher perspectives. We're going to be really locked into the wisdom.

A Vision of Light

And I don't know about you, but visions are pretty prominent these days around people through dreams, through just, just some day to day. Well, I've always had visions in my world.

I'm gonna stop there for a second and I'm gonna tell you a vision that I had. And I was in a traditional faith. I was a Presbyterian. I was an elder. And their ordination is laying on a hands. And that church was packed all the way back to the back pew.

And I was coming up front. I was the witness elder, okay. The witness. Okay. And anyways, the everybody laid on hands and then all the all the hands went toward me and the minister. And so I was enjoying the moment and I'm sure... Reverend Blade, that was that was the minister's name.

We were all praying, but something hit my heart at that moment. I looked up and this is an A framed, you know, like three story A frame building and it was all open and there was a man of light there.

And I go, okay. And then he shot a beam of light right into my heart, from his heart.

My world changed.

My world completely went the opposite way of what I thought it was gonna go. I expanded my reality. I no longer fit with my husband. my work was not satisfactory to me. I was an X ray tech. It was great. But it wasn't for purpose. It wasn't my path. So these visions will start to come to each one of y'all.

Whatever it is, you'll get a mission. Those what the visions are is a mission to help move this evolution of spirit forward. And it's gonna be a lot easier if you embrace it. So so the evolution as I was, you know, I'm bringing this full circle. So we had the explanation of embracing our spiritual... growth is basically what we're doing...

Evolving Into Beings of Light

But this is more than growth, this is evolution. And I like, like I said, the definition and evolution is a change in the genetic composition of the population, resulting in development of a new species.

So when you think about it, we're evolving to a new species. And that's super exciting for me. We are changing down to our DNA. And I'm sure everybody has heard me say we're moving from a carbon-based body to a crystalline-based body. And we're now holding more and more light in ourselves, and we're evolving to be the beings of light, every one of us.

And every one of us is going to be out there teaching too, just through your light. That's what's so exciting. So as this new human or homeo sapiens, I feel like we are now going to be so essential to this time to embrace the light, to meditate with the light, to see even see your shower water has light in it. Let it come in and work with you. Let that shower go.

Okay, I want to, you know, clean up something that I don't want anymore, whatever you're resistant to. You can you can you can use that a hundred million ways. so embracing being open to receiving, open to being directed.

By your higher self, by the soul. There's no an another road to take. You're going to be directed if they're just like Beth, she had two roads. Which one did you go? Well, you were directed which one to go to. You would you would have no question about it. Now, if I have a question, does anybody know kines kinesology? It's basically you you ask her, Am I female?

it won't let me go. Am I male? Okay. So you can hold that in front of you and you can always ask for confirmations through this kinesthetic. A lot of people will test you in vitamins and things like that by doing the one out and you hold it str you hold it strong, but if it's not strong, that's not the vitamin for you. that was a little side note. you know, I always do things like that.

A Meditation on Light

So one of the meditations, I'm not going to walk you through it, but I'm going to give you the visual, is it's a little different than what I have talked about before, because we need to have the heart start the light in our body. We need the heart. We have to open the heart. We have to open the heart to gratitude, thankfulness that we're going through this change. We've got to open the heart to receive the light. And and it's interesting.

What two weeks ago I was talking about the Huna faith and how as you breathe in, you're going to now breathe in the light and and keep it in your heart and then expand outward from your heart. And as you push anything you want away, and one of the things it would be good to focus on is I'm going to focus on my connection to God to guide me, instead of focusing on what's outside here influencing me.

And that's the biggest thing that I feel like we're moving into is that where can you imagine this world being guided by everybody in the same, you know, sense, if you would. We're all whole. We're all in that one mint, at one mint with God. And we are allowing this guidance to come in. And that is invaluable. That's that's the blessings of God. That's and what what else are you going to be united with? Is the love of God. And we need to be lighthouses for everybody that we come across. This some people need lighthouses for us too. So but the more you give, the more you're going to be open to receiving. So... and when you expand out in that meditation, there's always the guidance is saying eleven feet, eleven feet, but we would want a big oval within us of light, and then we can also receive within that tube of light. So we're here for each other during this evolution of change. embrace it.

But we've got the community here to help one another and I was very blessed to find this Chapel. I found it in nineteen ninety-two, I do believe. Might have been earlier. I don't remember. But I found it at a soccer field with my son and those two other people start attended here. So that's how I found the chapel that long ago. And after that spiritual experience that I had at being an elder at a church, that was prime time.

So thank you, thank you for all finding your way here to Chapel and continuing to support this community and know that we're all blessed. Thank you very much. Thank you.

A Love Bomb for Rev. Bettye Mason

Rev. Beth Yates, Presiding: Thank you, Reverend Sharon. As noted earlier, Reverend Bettye Mason's not with us. So let's just take a moment and send her a love bomb. Let her know we're here. So just take a deep breath and send it out from your heart. Reverend Bettye Mason, we love you! We love you, Bettye! And thank you for your service.

All right. It's my honor and privilege to say our next speaker is Reverend Bill Whitley.

Rev. Bill Whitley: From Religious Exclusion to Spiritual Inclusion

Being the last speaker puts one in a position of repeating some of the things that have already been said. And that's okay. Because we're all on similar spiritual paths. And I would expect that we would say some things that are similar or the same. But I was told today that I should speak on embracing spiritual evolution. So I took that to heart. And made that my target and said, how am I gonna do this? And I thought about it and my life has been really busy as everyone knows, so I I don't have a lot of time to sit down and get my thoughts together and prepare as I'd like to. I like to have a long time, get it all laid out, everything in order, you know.

So I essentially put this together this morning, trying to get dressed, get ready to come here and sit down and Debbie was waiting on me and I'm at the computer and it's time to go and I'm still trying to get my thoughts together. So the only thing I could come up with is just how to present this was to personalize it.

So I'm presenting this topic, embracing spiritual evolution, from my personal perspective over the years of my life.

And how have I seen... How have I interacted with... How have I perceived... Spiritual evolution?

Spiritual Evolution Begins in the Mind

Spiritual evolution does not always manifest as a well awakening, as Trish said, or an awe-inspiring enlightenment. Spiritual evolution begins in the mud and dirt of everyday life.

I thought hard about how I could discuss spiritual evolution. Well, I could present it from an esoteric perspective and talk about the light and the dark that permeates the universe. But then I began to think about how spiritual evolution has manifested in my lifetime on my physical level.

And and I think as I look around the room, my lifetime exceeds everyone in this room. See? So I've had a long lifetime and a lot of chances to experience spiritual ... evolution. Whether I realized it at the time that that's what was happening or not.

Rev. Whitley's definition of Spiritual Evolution

Before one can embrace spiritual evolution, they have to understand spiritual evolution.

How do I build understand spiritual evolution?

Not how do you understand spiritual evolution, not how they understand spiritual evolution, and certainly not someone else's definition of spiritual evolution.

But Bill's understanding of spiritual evolution.

To me, spiritual evolution is the movement from religious exclusion to spiritual inclusion.

Spiritual evolution is the movement from religious exclusion to spiritual inclusion.

That led me to a question.

Have I actually embraced spiritual evolution?

In my lifetime, I have seen and experienced a movement from religious exclusion to spiritual inclusion.

Growing up in religious exclusion

When I was growing up, my religion of my youth was very much in the religious exclusion stage. I grew up in the Methodist church during the 40s, 50s, and 60s era. During this time period, Jim Crow was still very much alive. My goodness.

That did not really change until the mid sixties.

I remember the local grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan coming to my father's store and trying to recruit my father to join the Klan. He refused. I remember the elders of our church discussing what they were going to do if someone tried to integrate our church.

Speaking Up

I remember one of the elder ladies of the church carrying me and my mother to Suffolk to a JC Penny store to buy me my first suit. We didn't have much money and we didn't have much transportation, so we had to depend on people in the church or wherever in the neighborhood for assistance to do that. What was most memorable about that ride was the discussion of integration and how it affected the church.

Not judging this lady, but she was one of the wealthy, you know, ladies of the church. So

And I remember speaking up and objecting to the discussion. During this time young people were expected to keep their mouth shut. All right. All right now. And you did not dare speak up when this conversation was going on.

But I spoke up. Didn't get hit, but I sure thought I was! So my religion was very much a religion of exclusion.

Three Social Movements Toward Inclusion

So what were the things I remember that impressed me? A move from exclusion to inclusion and I would call the beginning of our embracing spiritual evolution.

And I wrote three things, three things came to my mind as most relevant to me from my perspective, how that came about.

Number one, Martin Luther King. shit. Number two, the hippies movement. And number three, the LGBT movement.

Martin Luther King was most active from 1955 - 1968 and brought to light the discrimination and exclusion of people based solely on their color or race. He was a guiding light for inclusion and thus was a leader of spiritual evolution.

The hippies. And we had a hippie speak last Sunday. And he wore his colors. The tie-dye colored shirt. And we had tie-dye colored clothing and all kinds of stuff here for sale at the Chapel last Sunday. So we recently had the hippie movement here. The hippies were not satisfied with typical religion.

And were the expression of love for all and desired spirituality over religion. They placed flowers in the rifle barrels of the military with the expression of love at Kent State.

The LGBT movement revealed that exclusion was still very much alive in the world, and has and have done much to reveal the fact.

The Chapel as Oasis

So yes, I have actually seen and experienced religious exclusion and spiritual inclusion.

My youth revealed religious exclusion and the chapel revealed spiritual inclusion.

So, to me, the Metaphysical Chapel of Life is the epitome of embracing spiritual evolution.

The Metaphysical Chapel of Life is truly the oasis in the desert of life.
